jewel girl asked: I bought a small roll top desk at a second hand store. It is in good shape, but I want to refinish it (strip paint, sand, and repaint with an anitqued look). I have no idea on how to address the roll part of the desk. Is there anyway to take the roll off/out and get into the little crevices? Any help would be much appreciated, since I don’t have any experience with refinishing furniture.

working_guy06 asked: The neighbor is elderly and I am taking this as a project . This cannot be done in one day. She bought the materials I just have to clean strip and paint and make it look as new as possible. The furniture is like 50 yrs old so it means alot to her. Does 200.00 sound like too much?
I’ve called around and they would charge her more than 300.00

Nik asked: We are painting our kitchen table black. I am trying to copy something I saw in Pottery Barn. The table is a cheap one from Walmart, white legs and chairs, “wood” top and seats. what type of paint would work best? I don’t want anything glossy, I think maybe I want almost a distressed finish or a matte finish. I am clueless with this stuff!

shad asked: I want to paint a kitchen table and chairs. They are oak, were painted white with a natural wood table top and chair seats.I want to change the white parts to black, and refinish the table top and chair seats to a dk. walnut with a little red in the stain. I don`t want to have to do this again for as long as possible. I would rather do it right, and have it last. What course of action should I take to prepare for the painting? Also, what kind of paint should I use? Please walk me through this, because I **** making mistakes. Ha Thanks in advance.

tghad asked: I recently purchased a new bedroom set (an antique black color) and am trying to redo the room before it arrives. I’m hoping to paint the walls a buttery yellow color, and I have oak colored hardwood floors. My question is what color would you recommend painting all of the trim (fairly wide trim along the floors, around all windows, doors, and the hope is for crown molding eventually)?? We usually like the starkness of white trim, however it seems as if it would be rather jarring against the black furniture. Any assistance you can offer would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

hot single mom asked: I love wood and have acquired lots of furniture pieces over the years. I have a cabinet I believe it’s walnut, stripped 8 layers of paint from it and would like to lightly stain and protect the wood. What kind of finish can I apply to it?
I picked up a cute little side table that would look great with a shiny finish. I’ve sanded it down and plan on putting a light stain on it. I would like a somewhat thick laquer finish on it. Any advice?
Where can I pick up tips on finishing different pieces of wood furniture including antiques?
Thanks.
