This past weekend we cleaned off our balcony and cleaned the patio furniture, etc. after the winter. We have had pigeons hanging around the balcony and the upstairs window sills, and after seeing the mess they have made on our balcony (not to mention listening to their annoying ***** at 5 in the morning!), we have been looking for ways to get rid of the pigeons. However, today we looked out on the balcony and saw 2 eggs underneath our barbecue, with the start of a nest being built. We do NOT want it there - we are trying to get RID of these damn pigeons, not have them procreate on our property. What can we do? I don’t really want to get rid of the eggs (I’m not that heartless) but I will be if I have to…lol. I’m sick of these birds and their mess…any ideas as to what we should do here? Thanks in advance.

My dog has been having gastrointestinal problems for about 3-4 weeks. I have been back and forth to the vet and have already spent over $500; and still no definite answer on the cause. I have asked a couple questions on here before in which I explained her symptoms in detail, if you need a little more background information. But basically she was throwing up (but hasn’t in about 2 weeks); diarrhea (still has not gone away, but no longer has blood in it); lethargic (not as bad anymore, but still definately not her old self); increased/frequent ********* and excessive drinking in the past 4-5 days; kinda acts skiddish at times (she even flinched at me which she does not do since I’ve never hit her….in fact, she’ll do something wrong and then hide behind me cause she knows I’ll protect her. LoL)

I was thinking of any possible changes in her environment that could have brought this on, and I believe the construction on the apartment directly above mine began at the same time. I live in a building which was built in the 1920s (well kept up, but still old) which I am sure has lead paint since almost all built before like 1978 do. I have noticed alot more dust on tables and when I vaccuum, and they even punched a small hole in my bedroom wall (it’s already fixed).

I found some good articles on lead poisoning (i.e. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1571&articleid=1522) and think this may be the problem. She has always licked things constantly; the walls, furniture, blankets, and especially her front paws. So today at her recheck, I asked the vet about testing for it and he said those aren’t really accurate but he wouldn’t recommend keeping her there while the renovations are going on. Well, they won’t be done with the apartment for at least a month or two; so I’m in a predicament. I should get the blood test results within a couple days, but I’m not sure if they are going to be able to tell me anything this time since they haven’t the last 2 times.

Has anyone had any similar type of experience? If so, do you have any information on a test to identify it or treatments?
Would getting an air purifier help at all?

My 94 yr. old granny is a hoarder who’s been living in the same house since 1941. We are currently moving her/cleaning out this home, and coming across some amazing finds–i.e. 1941 National Geographic/ 1952 Family Circle/1953 Field Stream, vintage clothing, antique toys and furniture, as well as many odds ends that we know nothing about (except that they’re very old). It’s not like we can rent a room to an Antiques Roadshow expert (lol), so any other ideas please?
