Any advice on refinishing a roll top desk?

jewel girl asked:

I bought a small roll top desk at a second hand store. It is in good shape, but I want to refinish it (strip paint, sand, and repaint with an anitqued look). I have no idea on how to address the roll part of the desk. Is there anyway to take the roll off/out and get into the little crevices? Any help would be much appreciated, since I don’t have any experience with refinishing furniture.

How would I go about sealing old sports card onto a kitchen table to make it look new and unique?

I have an old kitchen table that is still in good shape but needs to be refinished. I thought using some of my old sports cards to seal on the top would be fun and neat looking but how would I go about doing that? I know several food places such as Tully’s and Bathtub Billy’s has done it.

It is oak color and I am wanting to know if I can sand it down and then restain it or paint it. It is an eyesore and I am hoping to fix it.

Hi, we are buying a new set of sofa (Leather), a new dining table (glass top with steel/aluminium bottom) and a cot (wooden). We would be using it for 2 months. Later we would be going to a different place for 4 to 5 years before we get back here again and use this furniture. During this long absence we are planning to pack all the furniture and lock it up in a room till we get back (after 4 to 5 years). Please let me know how I can pack these pieces of furniture and with what material should I pack such that once we get back the furniture is still in good shape as it would be today. Your ideas and suggestions would be of great help to me.

Regards

We want to make our attic into a bedroom but we’re not sure if it will work. Please help?

~*missyme*~ asked:

We have a 2 bedroom house that is 1 story and 100 years old. However, we have an attic with 600 square feet of usable stand-up space (we measured) and four full size windows in it, however the only access is is a crawl space the size of a boot box which is located in the back of a closet. We want to put in a pulldown stairway somewhere and make the attic into a bedroom. The only problem is is that the floor joists in the attic are 2″ x 6″ (the lumber is in good shape too). I know that there is no way that this would be able to support a floor and/or furniture - how could we safely re-enforce the floor (without having to put in support beams downstairs because there is NO room to do that) so that we would be able to have a bedroom up there? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!!
